Measuring between 0.05 and 0.3 cm thick, the dermis is the part of the skin which lies deep beneath the epidermis and consists of a layer of connective tissue. Within the dermis, there are organ of sensation, blood and lymph vessels, hair roots, nerve endings, and sweat glands. The connective tissue of the dermis is made of collagen fibers and lies above the subcutaneous tissue.
