Titanium is a dark-grey, very hard, light and corrosion-resistant metallic element, occurring combined with various minerals. It is used in metallurgy to remove oxygen and nitrogen from steel and to toughen it. Due to its lightness and hardness, titanium is also used in aviation industry to manufacture military aircraft.
