Adrenergic Neurons

Adrenergic neurons a those nerve cells that produce norepinephrine, which is a neurotransmitter. Most of them are located in the sympathetic nervous system, at the end of posganglionic fibers, with their axons traveling to an effector. However, adrenergic neurons are also found in the base of the brain, in the central nervous system, being responsible for wakefulness and elevation mood.

Peripheral adrenergic neurons link signals coming from other nerves of the central nervous system with peripheral sense organs.
