Cephalic Vein

Saturday, August 30, 2014

The cephalic vein is a blood vessel which originates from the dorsal network of veins of hand, on the radial side. Then, it turns around the radius bone, at the wrist, and runs up the ventral (or anterior) side of forearm and outer side of arm, emptying into the axillary vein in the armpit. It anastomoses with the basilic vein through the median cubital vein. Function: the cephalic vein drains deoxygenated blood from the hand and arm towards the heart.
