Tromethamine is an organic agent indicated for the correction of systemic acidosis in the following life-threatening conditions, helping to sustain vital functions: 1) metabolic acidosis associated with cardiac bypass surgery, 2) correction of acidity in ACD blood in cardiac bypass surgery, 3) metabolic acidosis associated with cardiac arrest.

Sold under the brand name of THAM-E, tromethamine is an organic amine buffer or proton acceptor used in the treatment of severe systemic acidosis. It is administered intravenously at the dosis of 36 gm, along with sodium chloride (1.75 gm) and potassium chloride (0.37 gm).
