Sold under the brand name of  Dicumarol in the United States, bishydroxycoumarin is an anticoagulant agent indicated for the prophylaxis and treatment of venous thrombosis and its extention and in the therapy of atrial fibrillation with embolization and pulmonary embolism. Bishydroxycoumarin is contraindicated in patients who are bleeding or who have hemorrhagic tendencies. and open ulcerations of the gastrointestinal tract.

Drugs which may stimulate metabolic degradation of bishydroxycoumarin include phenobarbital as well as some other barbiturates.
